چکیده

LTHOUGH iron-deficiency anemia is one of the most common disorders seen in clinical medicine, the symptoms that occur in this deficiency state have never been explained satisfactorily. Studies by Guhier et al.1 and studies (lone in our laboratory24 have demonstrated that the long-held and often-repeated concept that iron enzymes are not affected in iron deficiency is incorrect. The cytochrorne c italasei and cytochrome oxidase4 content of tissues in iron-deficient and normal rats and the catalase content of the red cells of man5 were studied earlier in this series of investigations. In the current study, assays of the enzyme succinic dehydrogenase ( SDH ) have been carried out. It has recently been suggested that iron is a component of this enzyme.#{176} Unlike the other iron enzymes we have studied. the iron in SDH is apparently not present in the form of a heme group.

The acute toxicity of urea coated ferrous oxide nanoparticles on L929 cell line, evaluation of biochemical and pathological parameters in rat kidney and liver

Introduction: Iron plays an important role in physiological processes as a trace element. Today, iron oxide nanoparticles have attracted extensive attention due to their super paramagnetic properties and a variety of potential applications in many fields. The main objective of this study was to evaluate in vitro and in vivo toxic effects of the iron oxide nanoparticles on L929 cell line, kid...

The effects of iron deficiency on the respiratory function and cytochrome content of rat heart mitochondria.

We have examined the effects of total body iron deficiency on the function of mitochondria isolated from rat hearts. Male Wistar rats were weaned at 21 days and divided into an experimental iron-deficient group and a control group. Both groups received identical diet but an iron supplement (180 mg of ferrous sulfate per kg of diet) was added for the control group. Rats were studied at 7 and 14 ...

Enzyme activities in tissues of zinc-deficient rats.

Zinc content of testes, bones, esophagus, kidneys, and muscles was decreased, whereas iron content was increased in the testes of zinc-deficient rats compared to restrictedly fed control rats. Histochemical enzyme determinations revealed reduced activities of certain enzymes in the testes, bones, esophagus, and kidneys. In the testes, lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), malic dehydrogenase (MDH), alcoh...

Effect of iron deficiency on succinate- and NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductases in skeletal muscle mitochondria.

The effects of iron deficiency on the NADH- and succinate-oxidizing complexes of rat skeletal muscle mitochondria have been investigated. Both systems were similarly affected: activities were about 30% of normal in dehydrogenase, ubiquinone reductase, and oxidase assays, and similar reductions in the concentration of their respective flavin prosthetic groups were also evident in the iron-defici...

The Effect of Magnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles on Mice Liver and Kidney

Background & Aims: In spite of frequent produce and use of magnetic nanoparticles in biological fields, there are few studies on their side effects, especially under in-vivo conditions. Method: In this research, the effect of the single-dose intraperitoneal injection of DMSA (dimercaptosuccinic acid) coated magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4) in different doses (50, 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg...
